Inner West Health Clinic Privacy Policy

Respecting your privacy and the law

The privacy of your personal information is important to us. Inner West Health Clinic (IWHC) is committed to respecting your right to privacy and protecting your personal information. We are bound by the National Privacy Principles in the Privacy Act 1988 (Australian Commonwealth), relevant Health Privacy Principles under State legislation, as well as other applicable laws and codes affecting your personal information.

About this Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy outlines how IWHC manages your personal information. It describes the types of personal information we collect, why we collect it, and how that information is collected, held, used, and disclosed.

Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Collecting your personal information

If you make enquiries, acquire, or have acquired a product or service from IWHC, we will collect and hold your personal information for the purposes of:

  • Providing you with the relevant information, product, or service
  • Managing and administering the product or service
  • Administering individual accounts
  • Contacting you when needed
  • Protecting against fraud

The information collected may include your name, postal or email address, health information, or other personal information that IWHC considers necessary. We will only collect your personal information directly from you, for example, when you fill out a form on our website or purchase a product or service from us. Financial information, such as credit card numbers, collected during the purchase process will only be used to charge you for the product or service and will never be given to any third party (other than the credit card authorization center).

We may use your personal information to inform you about, and develop, products and services from IWHC that may better serve your needs or to inform you about promotions or other opportunities. You can contact us at any time if you no longer wish to receive this information (see “Contacting Us” below). IWHC also provides opt-out newsletters and emails, and subscribers can unsubscribe at their own discretion.

Keeping your personal information accurate and up-to-date

We strive to ensure that the personal information we collect is accurate, complete, and up-to-date. If you believe your personal information is not accurate, complete, or up-to-date, please contact us.

Protecting your personal information

The security of your personal information is important to us. We take reasonable steps to protect it from misuse, loss, and unauthorized access, modification, or disclosure. We use secure technologies such as firewalls, data encryption, and user access controls to protect your information. Orders are processed via a secure server (SSL), and credit card details are never emailed.

Use of Cookies

IWHC uses cookies and server logs to collect information about how our website is used, including the date and time of visits, pages viewed, and your IP address. Cookies are small text files stored on your computer. You can control or delete cookies through your browser settings, but some services and functionalities may not work if cookies are disabled.

If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

If you visit our login page, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.

If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after 1 day.

IP Addresses

Your IP address is automatically collected by our web server as part of traffic data. This data is used to identify your computer for delivering requested web pages to you.

Email Information

If you choose to correspond with us via email, we may retain the content of your messages along with your email address and our responses. We protect these electronic communications just as we protect information received through other means.

If you request a password reset, your IP address will be included in the reset email.

How We Use the Information You Provide

IWHC uses personal information for administering our business activities, providing customer service, and offering products and services. We will not obtain personally identifiable information about you unless you provide it, nor will we sell or transfer it to unaffiliated third parties without your approval.

Email Policies

We are committed to keeping your email address confidential. We do not sell, rent, or lease our subscription lists to third parties. Emails will only be used to provide timely information about IWHC, and we will comply with CAN-SPAM regulations, including clear instructions on how to unsubscribe from emails.

Choice/Opt-Out

Users can opt-out of receiving communications from us by following the unsubscribe instructions located at the bottom of any email from IWHC.

Use of External Links

Our website may contain links to other external websites. These sites are not subject to our privacy standards, and we encourage you to review their privacy policies directly.

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

Where your data is sent

Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.
