THE BIODYNAMIC OSTEOPATHY MODEL
Osteopathy is based on the principle that the body has its own inherent healing mechanism present throughout life. We are made perfect and if given healthy conditions to grow and develop, perfect health should be the result.
“To find health should be the object of the doctor. Anyone can find disease” Dr A.T. Still.
A biodynamic approach to cranial osteopathy is a treatment that views the body as a whole. It does not bias any body parts as less or more important and as such aims to treat the cause not just the symptoms. It works by restoring natural motion to all tissues in the body.
This principle when applied in a treatment sees the Cranial Osteopath continually trying to bring the body to a resting place or a balance point. It is here that the body can reset and heal turning to function from its original or healthy state.
When the body undergoes trauma of any nature or magnitude the whole system is compromised in order to protect itself. As a result the body may struggle with normal function or growth and development. It is then the job of the Osteopath to alleviate this tension or trauma from within the system and help the whole body restore balance and healthy function. This will result in good health both locally and globally.
For a Biodynamic or “Cranial Osteopath” this is done by applying a gentle pressure to different areas of the body, depending on the symptoms or complaint. The treatment is very relaxing with patients often commenting on this or falling asleep. Babies and Children will often quickly settle once the treatment has begun.
Cranial Osteopathy is often associated with chronic conditions, physical traumas especially in children as well as immune dysfunction or following surgery.
At Inner West Health Clinic our Biodynamic Osteopaths are highly trained and educated in this area completing years of post graduate study in the USA and locally. They have a particular interest in Paediatrics and Women’s Health – helping women recover from a variety of physical and emotional traumas that they may encounter throughout life as well as supporting women and children through the various stages of their life.
From birth and far beyond we are exposed to many stresses and strains and in order to keep ourselves healthy and well we must find a friend in our Osteopath to help minimise the impact of these stresses on our normal growth and development.
